Tesla inventor, Elon Musk, claims we are simulations living in a virtual reality

Matrix Utopia
June 2016ALTERNATE REALITYHuman beings have long been fascinated by the idea that the world as it appears to us is not the ultimate reality. In recent years, however, such metaphysical speculations have taken on a more materially conceivable form. Computer-based virtual reality makes the idea that we could be living in a simulation more than just an abstract possibility; some very smart people even think that this is not only possible, but likely. Very likely. Many of them take their lead from the Oxford philosopher Nick Bostrom. His tightly argued 2003 paper in the leading journal Philosophical Quarterly argued that if such a simulation were created at any point in the universe’s history, then we’re almost certainly in one now.
Silicon Valley is a fertile breeding ground for believers, and Elon Musk, the space travel and electric car entrepreneur, has come out as one of them. He says that the chances we’re not uploads in a virtual world are billions to one against. It’s easy to laugh this off. If life is a massive multiplayer online game, how come it’s the only one that never freezes? The theory is also vulnerable to a twist on the venerable problem of evil: if people like us created this virtual world, why on earth are the diseases so nasty, the poverty so widespread and the television so awful? If you could make a perfect simulacrum of a world, why would you make one so imperfect?
But for me the main interest isn’t in whether Musk is right. My fascination is with the fascination. Some people just find the whole idea too fanciful to even think about. But many other find it terrifying, exciting or both. Why would such an apparently outlandish idea have this effect? It’s not as though it would actually change anything about daily life if it were true. Your joys, heartaches, pleasures and pains feel the way they feel, whether they’re experienced in silicon or carbon. The Buddha’s teaching that life is suffering is no less true if rebirth is really a reboot.

Inception

Musk himself provides a neat example of the strange power of the theory to change everything and nothing. He is worried about the unintended potential bad consequences of artificial intelligence (AI), such as machines making us their slaves. So he has donated $10m to the Future of Life Institute to run “a global research program aimed at keeping AI beneficial to humanity”. What is odd about this is that his theory implies that he himself is a form of artificial intelligence, and it doesn’t seem to have done him any harm.
Even more mind-spinning is that if Musk is right then we are actually about to see AI being produced within AI. There could be no end to these worlds within worlds. When the Taoist Zhuangzi woke up after dreaming he was a butterfly, he should have written: “Now I do not know whether I was then a man dreaming I was a butterfly, or a butterfly dreaming he was a man dreaming of a butterfly, or a man dreaming he was a butterfly dreaming he was a man dreaming he was a butterfly …” And so on, in ad infinitum. But no matter how long the chain goes on, we’re still left at whatever level of the dream it is where we find ourselves wondering.
Perhaps the very fact that the theory changes nothing is part of its attraction. You get all the thrill of believing something wild without the downside of having to fundamentally change the way you live. It’s a bold intellectual leap that leaves you exactly where you jumped from. This is the safest possible way to enjoy the exhilaration of upheaval, for there surely is something intoxicating about turning ordinary life on its head, even when it’s terrifying. Soldiers often find that war is both sickening and the thing that makes them feel most alive. Many who watched the 9/11 attacks live on television will admit, if honest, that amid the terror was a kind of guilty thrill that they were witnessing something momentous. Anything cataclysmic, from an alien invasion to a natural catastrophe, also makes life seem more than just mundane, and so also somehow more meaningful.

Minority Report

There is one way in which the simulation hypothesis might offer more than just a change in how we see this world. It might also open up the possibility of a kind of eternal life. In an age when fewer and fewer of us believe we will ascend to heaven, limitless uploads to a virtual afterlife would be the next best thing. Who wants to accept that Game Over really can be end? What these explanations of the theory’s appeal have in common is that they speak to a common desire for there to be more to life than the interregnum between cradle and grave.
Desire for a virtual life grows from dissatisfaction with the real one we have. This desire can surely only increase, the more disconnected we become from the natural cycle of life and death, and the less able to accept it. Technology helped create the problem, and now it offers itself as the solution. A better response would be to loosen our attachment to all things digital and neat, and spend more time trying to embrace the analogue but messy mortal, natural world. –The Guardian

compared to the eternal realm this 4 dimensional world would seem like a ” virtual ” reality yet so many unbelievers want to be stuck in this virtual reality instead of accepting God’s existence which is the true reality realm.

On a similar line many scientist types tracking aliens believe they are not from a distant world as they claim, but are actually from a parallel place to ours here since there are so many thousands of sightings it doesnt add up that they all came millions of light yrs. As one commented they also lie about everything. It seems they have never been seen entering our atmosphere ( remember how many satellites we have out there) yet they are always seen entering vertically out of water & re entering water plus they do some astronomical speeds & turns.
As I saw one comment that they always lie as well. It seems they originally all claimed to be coming from mars & the moon, until we put satilites up there & proved all their cities etc were not true. Now they claim they are from millions of light yrs away. Why would they bother?
It would also explain why they can just appear in front of us etc.

    Interesting proposal… But?

Consider this: How many people watch movie trailers or situation movies and then think that is it is to be or is. Consider copycat murders originated from movie/TV plots.
Consider how many women are sexually assaulted because a man saw a movie trailer or movie and thought he could repeat the scene or situation or that was what she wanted.

The mind is a terrible thing to waste and its ability to fantasize/imagine/create images far more powerful. Very dangerous.

I’ve watched The Matrix. Again, misleading thinking.

We often hear about how the moon landing were faked because there is The Van Allen Radiation Belt That encircles the earth but Nasa Scientists allegedly found the path of least exposure. 345 miles is about the highest the shuttle when up I think or a little less.

If we are truly living in a matrix or a bubble which I doubt, then the unmanned space craft that have reportedly left the solar system would not had and would had crashed into a barrier, past Pluto, the perimeter of the matrix?

But we all do live in the physical realm and there is a spiritual realm also.

If any of you get the chance, watch the SCIFI Channel and you will see much paranoia. The Twilight Zone and such. How many times have tou and I read reviews of

    How about the evening news?

How about Star trek? How many people got caught up in that fantasy of space exploration and never saw their society in action?

Now, with Trans humanism about to explode on the scene, the concept is that you can grow new body parts/replace worn out parts and implant computer chips to make you smarter, more physically powerful, modify DNA.

    Interesting isn’t it

I think they are trying to find a way to mix animal with man…If they are I think that is when God says.. shut it down!

      • Utopia: the Collapse says:

The only way we’re not an the end of the line for humanity is someone has moved the line. It’s frightening what we’re going to morph into before long.

      • Merv says:

Joseph they are well past mixing animal & human when they started growing human ears & hearts in pigs etc. The thing they are trying to perfect is the human machine combo.
Do you remember the fauns in the lion the witch & the wardrobe plus other things history says were before the flood. Well I just found out of bush trackers in Aus who, a few yrs ago were out in the winter with a fire going because of the cold when they heard the clip clop of something coming & it turned out to be a faun who came into the fire & said how cold it was that night. They were so stunned they just agreed & didnt say anything until after it left.

      • Joseph Sonny Skies says:

Thank you Merv. Just a crazy thought from my over tired mind today but would a good Jew or Muslim need to reject a transplant that was grown in a pig ?

Yes, close resemblance. Great rebooted series, btw – though the ending was a disappointment.

        Agreed Alvin!

Not only that, but that traitor was never outed or discovered, I think.

Alvin, DNA strain has been corrupted

God saw how corrupt the earth was, for every creature had corrupted its way on the Earth.” -Genesis 6:12
