Congress moves to require women to register for military draft

Draft Women
April 2016WASHINGTON House lawmakers took a large step toward putting female soldiers on the front lines on Wednesday, approving legislation requiring women to register for the draft. Members of the House Armed Services committee passed the measure as part of the panel’s version of the defense spending bill for fiscal year 2017, according to the Associated Press.
After a lengthy, and at times heated debate, the legislation only passed by a slim two vote margin with the bill’s main sponsor California Republican Rep. Duncan Hunter actually voting against the measure during the House defense spending bill markup on Wednesday. Hunter, along with former SEAL and Montana Republican Rep. Ryan Zinke, initially proposed the plan to require women to register for the draft in February, shortly after the Pentagon lifted its ban on female service members from serving in combat infantry units and special operations forces.
“It’s wrong and irresponsible to make wholesale changes to the way America fights its wars without the American people having a say on whether their daughters and sisters will be on the front lines of combat,” Hunter said at the time. But on Wednesday, Hunter attempted unsuccessfully to sway committee members from backing the legislation, telling the House panel that the draft “is there to put bodies on the front lines to take the hill. The draft is there to get more people to rip the enemies’ throats out and kill them.”
It remains to be seen whether the House measure will be included in the final version of the defense spending bill that will be sent to the White House. However, California Democrat Rep. Jackie Spier, who voted in favor of the bill, said the legislation was a positive step toward gender equality in the military. “If we want equality in this country, if we want women to be treated precisely like men are treated and that they should not be discriminated against, we should be willing to support a universal conscription,” she said, according to the Associated Press.  –Washington Post

In my opinion having serve quite a few years in the military this idea is another assault in the war on women. Your idea of the war on women and mine are probably different. In the language of gender equality, women and men have different physical structure, (well known) and men could not carry a child as a women was designed by God to do or a woman carry weight bearing load on her back as a man. Very difficult for in the infantry, tanks and field artillery.

In the 1980’s different people, women soldiers (dentists) appeared before congressional hearing regarding women combat role saying that some should be open to females. But the idea now, is to bring down the quality of training by LOWERING THE STANDARDS OF TRAINING.

Plus, females having a monthly cycle an odor that an enemy K-9 can detect. Sounds rude. Ask a Marine Infantry or Army how often they take showers on the line?
Just as when the wind changes, and certain type of Cruines that is edible by different cultures. I am not being indifferent or disrespectful. Some countries draft their women, Israel does, I think but look at their population, very low. Look at ours. We tend to protect our women, and somewhat respect them. In the military police, but that is a combat support role, not an active combat
    role.
There to need to have gender competition ….

The military is no place for social engineering….

Ponder how many of the women captured in the gulf wars were raped? We know there was.

Reporter during the Arab Spring, reportedly raped.

    This is getting crazy….

Ask her if her daughter is raped or come home deformed? We don’t like it when a man comes home that way.

    My opinion.

  2. Quite correct. Exposing women to capture, severe body damage, &/or death for causes that they may not support alongside fellow troops (mainly men) whose presence they either may not care for, or alternatively may be deeply in love with such that their or their loved one’s torture endangers their loyalty to their national flag, is just plain silly. And if the self-aggrandizing politicians think it’s not, the they’re plain silly too!
